Course Offering:

The Lake County Chapter is proud to offer our final Continuing Education class for 2013.

We are happy to announce the return of one of our favorite instructors, Betty Glynn, who will lead us through the seven hour course entitled "Residential Narrative Report Writing." The description from NAIFA is as follows:

"The course is designed to be presented in a classroom setting. It will be a lecture with class discussion-style presentation. The course is designed to be presented following a 59-page sample narrative appraisal report, augmented with a 53-slide PowerPoint presentation. The students will end up with a narrative residential appraisal report template they take with them that will be useful as a guide in writing residential narrative appraisal reports in the future, should the need arise. They will learn how to use this tool in future appraisal situations."

Given the experience of most of our area appraisers, the Narrative Writing course is expected to broaden our approach to report writing and escape the constraints of standardized forms. With plenty of time for discussion, the class will provide opportunities for appraisers to explore the variety of ways we may accurately report our conclusions. Enhancing our report writing skills, we will leave with a template in hand and a better understanding of non-form reporting.

The event will be held at the FREMONT TOWNSHIP building, 22376 W. Erhart Rd., Mundelein, IL 60060. The building is located along Rt. 60, east of Fremont Center Rd. and there was ample parking at the ground floor entrance in the rear of the building. (Note that GPS may direct you to the maintenance building east of the subject on Erhart Rd. Please continue west to the Supervisor/Assessor building.)

A casual, hot lunch as well as morning coffee and an afternoon snack are all included in the low price of $125.00. Members of NAIFA, ASA, and ICAP receive a discounted price of $110.00.

Thank you to all who attended our first 2013 offering, APPRAISAL of GREEN HOMES. As the wave of the future, green housing will be an important aspect of our profession and appraisers are urged to understand the ins and outs of energy efficient housing. The following is a description provided by the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers:

Appraisal of Green Homes (7 Hours) - The objective of the course is for each student to gain an understanding and a working knowledge of what constitutes Green Construction, the history of Green Construction, approximately 51 frequently misunderstood terms relating to Green Construction, the major Green Home Certifying Organizations and how they work, how to find Homes with Green Energy Efficient features and Green Certified homes, and also a working knowledge of how to extract adjustments using sales databases. An additional object is for each student to gain a working knowledge of how to use the Green Section of the Marshall & Swift Residential Cost Handbook.

This class is approved for Continuing Education credit in Illinois and Wisconsin.
